As a follow up to the declaration of the High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A%2F66%2FL.1&Lang=E) the Brazilian Academy fo sciences, and the Brazilian National Academy of Medicine has set the date for a symposium on NCD on 3 – 4 May in Rio de Janeiro.

IAMP host academy, TWAS and Illycaffè s.p.a. award a high-level prize, the Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize, to honour outstanding scientific achievements made by individual scientists from the developing countries.The 2012 Prize will be for  efforts in Medical Sciences and carries a monetary award of USD 100,000.
