The Koninklije Academie voor Geneeskunde van Belgie (Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine)  was founded by Royal Decree of 7 November 1938 as a scientific institution to assist government on health care matters
The academy works to stimulate scientific research in medicine, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, to advise the Belgian federal and regional governments with regard to public health matters, biomedical scientific research, medical higher education and professional training
There are currently 79 ordinary members, 15 honorary members, 12 foreign honorary members, 62 foreign corresponding members elected by secret ballot.
The Academy awards 37 different prizes and publishes “Verhandelingen van de Koninklijke Academie voor Geneeskunde van België” and “Academia Regia Belgica Medicinae – Dissertationes – Series Historic”.
Meetings and public lectures are held  every month and the academy cooperates with other Belgian academies, Belgian public advisory committees and research institutions on health care matters, Belgian universities, CIOMS, Federation of European Academies of Medicine and Similar Organizations
