Dr Mahiben Maruthappu Senior Fellow in the CEO’s office of NHS England.
Mahiben is a doctor based in London and is passionate about improving health system quality and efficiency.
He serves as Senior Fellow in the CEO’s office of NHS England, focusing on strategy and operations.
He also serves as Advisor to Prof.Thomas Zeltner, SpecialEnvoy of the World Health Organisation; he is Director of the World Surgical Association; and Chairman of the UK Medical Students’ Association (UKMSA).
Mahiben’s research interests lie in health-economics, global health, and surgery, for which he was appointed a Scholar at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
He has over 40 academic awards, 40 peer-reviewed publications, and has presented his work across four continents.
He also has a strong interest in education, authoring three student-targeted medical books.
He studied preclinical medicine at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a triple First Class, and read clinical medicine at Oxford University, where he was the youngest appointed Teaching Scholar.
He was also Kennedy Scholar in Health Policy at Harvard University.
In his spare time he enjoys boxing, travelling and skydiving
