Ives Cavalcante Passos, MD, PhD, is a psychiatrist and researcher trained in Clinical Psychiatry and Neuroscience with focus on mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicide, geriatric psychiatry and methods to analyze big data, such as machine learning. His current responsibilities lie in 1) supervise psychiatry residents and medical interns during their rotation in Psychiatry at the university hospital; 2) supervise and evaluate graduate student teaching; 3) prepare lectures for classes (for medical and graduate students); 4) do ground-breaking verifiable and publishable scholarly research; 5) write grant proposals for submission to funding agencies; 6) counsel medical and graduate students on careers opportunities and choices; 7) supervise graduate student research; 8) help graduate students with their research; 9) present the research from his team at meetings of scholarly societies; 10) give presentations at other institutions of higher education; 11) respond to public queries in Psychiatry; 12) perform public service in Psychiatry; 13) give public lectures; 14) participate in graduate student defenses; 15) participate in hospital and departmental faculty meetings. Further, he is one of the supervisors of the bipolar disorder outpatient clinic and he is currently leading the development of the Geriatric Psychiatric Clinic at the HCPA.
